The difference between Service Material and Stockable Material is a key point in material management within any accounting or ERP system, and it becomes clearly visible in its impact on inventory.

Service Material is an intangible item and does not physically exist in the warehouse, such as maintenance work, consulting, installation, or any service provided to the customer. This type of material is not stored, nor are receipt or issue transactions performed for it in the warehouse. Therefore, it does not affect inventory quantities or value and is only handled financially or service-wise within invoices.

In contrast, Stockable Material is a tangible item that is physically stored, such as spare parts, raw materials, or finished goods, and it is subject to receipt, issue, stocktaking, and valuation procedures. This type of material directly impacts inventory, both in terms of quantity and cost. Any movement—purchase, sale, or consumption—immediately changes the inventory value and appears in warehouse reports.
